The Conjuring has made it clear to us from the start that the stories are based on real events. Therefore, every time we see them, it is inevitable to feel that chilling sensation. Because we think that some of these events can happen to someone close. Even ourselves. However, the producers of The Conjuring chose the simplest cases to make the films. In fact, if you look at the Warren files, you will notice that there are stories thousand times more gruesome.
Among the most famous cases of the Warrens, we have the curse of the Smurl family. Because they lived with a demon in their home for over a decade. And of course, it wasn’t easy to deal with him at all. Because the evil entity was too violent. For example, he threw the dog against the wall. He even sexually abused most of the family members.
Previously, the Smurls lived in a quiet residence in Wilkes-Barre. However, after Hurricane Agnes, they started living in a duplex. This had been built in 1882. Shortly after moving in, strange and violent events began to occur. For example, the carpet burst into flames and a stain appeared on the carpet. Also, the pipes were curiously damaged and the Smurls believed that they were scratches from some animal. This continued for many years.
On the other hand, a black figure appeared to the matriarch of the family, Janet Smurl. Shortly after this same event happened to his daughter Mary. After years of enduring these events, the Smurls contacted the Warrens in 1986. They did their best to eliminate the demons with songs and prayers. However, the events continued until Jack was raped by a scaly entity with a young body. Even something similar happened to Janet unfortunately.
Finally, the Warrens detected that there were four demons in that house. But they only managed to identify two. It was about a man named Patrick. He had murdered his lover and his wife. It was also about an old woman named Abigail. Then in 1986, the family moved, but the demons did not leave them behind. In 1988, the Diocese finally approved an exorcism that managed to end the phenomena.
West Point house – The Conjuring
Another case more terrifying than The Conjuring is that of The House at West Point. During the 1970s, the Warrens traveled to a military academy at West Point. In order to attend a case of a ghost soldier. In fact, it is said that the spirit wreaked havoc in the barracks. He even constantly tormented all the cadets. For several years the spirit haunted Lawrence Greer. After a while, he went from a military man to a complete murderer.
Maurice Theriault was a farmer leading a normal life. However, from one moment to the next he began to experience very strange changes. For example, sometimes he bled from the eyes, and other times he woke up with crosses on his body. Despite these facts, his story begins when he was a child. Maurice Theriault had a truly painful childhood. Because his father had a violent and tyrannical attitude.
Then when he grew up he was a very kind man and he took care of the farm. But unexpectedly that changed. He became an evil person. In fact, he said that an evil spirit drove him to violence. Starting in 1985, Maurice began to present inexplicable phenomena. Crosses on the body, wounds on the face, and blood from the eyes are some of the things that happened to him.
Maurice and his wife were Catholic. For this reason, they decided to call the priest Boyer. However, he did not address the situation, so they decided to call the Warrens. A short time later, they performed three exorcisms on him. But without a doubt, the last one was the worst for Maurice. This was done with 12 witnesses and during the process, Maurice’s body appeared to be on fire. His eyes even started to roll and blisters appeared on his face.
Maurice lost consciousness and after a few minutes came to. Therefore, the Warrens declared that the exorcism had been a success. This case is briefly mentioned in the movie The Nun.
The Werewolf of Southend – The Conjuring
Among the Warren cases, we have Bill Ramsey. A person who earned the nickname The Werewolf of Southend. According to the story, it is said that when Bill was nine years old, he began to behave in a strange way. He began to break the bars of his house and his behavior was like that of a wild wolf.
As the years passed, Bill’s condition calmed down. However, one day he bit and attacked a policeman, a nurse, and a stranger. After these events, he was immediately taken to a psychiatric institution. But doctors could not determine what illness he had. When the Warrens met them, they exorcised him. This was a success. Even Maurice felt calm and finally liberated.
The Amityville Horror
Through The Conjuring 2, this case is briefly mentioned. Even if the producers wanted, they could make a movie of it. Amityville is the place where Ronald DeFeo Jr and his family lived. But in 1974, something dreadful happened. The 23-year-old man killed his parents, his two sisters, and his two brothers. Each of the murders occurred around 3:00 a.m. when everyone was sleeping.
According to Ronald’s version, he shot everyone, without any remorse, with a shotgun. Furthermore, he mentions that some voices in his head told him that he should kill them.
After this event, the Lutz family moved into that house. They were a happy family of three children. The first days everything was normal. Therefore, none of them had experienced any paranormal events. But after a while, things started to get murky. Because the family began to suffer paranormal events. According to demonologists, it was a demon named Jodie. A strange being that manifested itself in the form of a pig because before animals were sacrificed in that house.
