Recently, a survey was conducted in Australia. Through this, they asked many people why they had favorite animals. In general, the main reason was that they provide company. In fact, in the case of dogs, people say that dogs provide protection. There are animals that contribute to the fun and there are others that are kept for breeding.

Some parents find that children who have pets are advantageous. Because these can offer companionship and pleasure. Even children can learn directly about animal life. Because they can observe them during mating, pregnancy and care for them. Also, the death of some favorite animals can prepare the child for the reality of life today.

Favorite animals provide the opportunity to impress on children that another life depends on them. But, there are cases where parents buy a pet and then the children get the excitement. Therefore, the adults are the ones who end up taking care of the animals. There are children who have physical and mental disabilities. Therefore, these animals help children adjust to the environment and calm down.

There are cases where in marriages couples cannot have children. For this reason, it is common for there to be pets in the home. This works as a substitute for the absence of the children. Also, some elderly people mention that animals provide them with quite a few benefits. For example, loyalty, protection, affection, and more.

However, this situation is a sad fact. Because older people who live alone become too obsessed with animals. For example, “A social worker reported: “A certain elderly man needed medical attention due to a toe infection. For months, he put off receiving medical treatment for later. Because that would mean being without the company of your dog.”

“The man lost his leg because gangrene had invaded it. But he was happy as long as he could see his dog. “Elderly people have been known to die shortly after their favorite animal died.”

There are extreme cases where pets are spoiled too much. To the point that the owners treat them as if they were human beings. But, outside of this, there is no denying that pets play a useful and beneficial role.

In general, the expenses to keep the animals include food and treatments. In fact, these treatments are about vaccines and to fight parasites. Also, some special services in case the animal has an accident or illness. In addition, caring for them requires time and patience. Because you have to train them, bathe them, show affection, and brush them. But, it is clear that the time that is dedicated to the animal will depend on the owners.

However, a very important point intervenes here, which is responsibility. For example, in the case of dogs, they need time for them. Also, a hostel of the right size. There are cases where people have pets in places that are not suitable. Or, they are not very careful with them. In fact, it must be remembered that noise can disturb the neighbors.

Currently, finding suitable accommodation for animal owners is somewhat complicated. Something similar happens when a person goes on a trip. It is difficult to settle the issue of what to do with the animal or to find someone to take care of it.

Another important issue is the animals that walk in the street. These generally belonged to families who did not take good care of them. Or, that they were abandoned. In Australia, around 50,000 dogs die on the streets each year. Because the owners did not want them and abandoned them. In the same way, this happens with cats, even in a larger quantity. There are people who have their pets neutered. In order to prevent these from reproducing.

Favorite animals: diseases

Sometimes animals can transmit diseases. There are even times where these can have serious consequences. But if certain concerns are taken in from the beginning, there is nothing to fear. However, it is better to have knowledge about the most common diseases.

Rabies is one of the biggest problems in different parts of the world. In areas where this exists, people vaccinate animals. In order to be able to counteract it and avoid any problems. We also have roundworms, a parasite called toxascaris. This is found in cats and dogs because of a disease. But, the animals that become infected live in metropolitan areas.

On the other hand, in the excrement of animals, there are large quantities of worm eggs. The eggs are acquired on the skin of the animal. In the same way that it happens with toys, grass, and carpets. Also, if you don’t wash your hands well, they can transfer them to your mouth. And, if accidentally eaten, the worms that hatch from the eggs travels to the liver. Also to the brain and nervous system.

Therefore, even though you do not have an animal, you must be aware of these dangers. What’s more, the eggs can live in the ground for years. For example, there is an exam that was conducted in England. There, eggs were found on the ground of some playgrounds and parks. Another problem that exists with tapeworms and these are transmitted in a similar way. These are transmitted directly or through mites.

Caged animals

Poultry, pigeons, parrots, and more host the disease known as psittacosis. In general, the birds appear healthier. However, this disease causes pneumonia and the flu. Also, this disease is promoted when there are too many birds. And, when these are in artificial conditions. It can be spread when people breathe in dust that has dried stool in it. Or, when people touch a sick or dead bird.

What is your favorite animal?

We loved spotting giraffes in Kruger National Park. They’re such curious animals—often walking right up to our car to take a closer peek at us. The tallest giraffe in the middle was significantly darker than his other companions, almost appearing black in the shade.
