The marvelous ’80s left us fantastic movies like Die unendliche Geschichte or The Goonies, but also some tv series that we remember with melancholia until these days. Some of these iconic tv shows were the A-Team or MacGyver. Today we go back to the past and round up the best and worth seeing 80’s tv shows. Sadly, not all of them can be watched on streaming platforms but there’s still hope to see them soon on streaming again.
The majority of the best ’80s tv shows are not available on streaming platforms, but for now, write down the names of the ones you consider the most enjoyable because of the description we’ll be giving you.
Meanwhile, you can watch some of the 90’s tv shows like The West Wing or Buffy the Vampire Slayer which are the ones available on the different platforms. The 80’s tv shows you can find are Full House or The Simpsons, series from the late ’80s.
Fortunately, one of the best series of the 80’s that we can see today is Seinfeld, one of the most recommended sitcoms of this decade. Born at the end of these years and broadcast mainly in the ’90s, it lasted almost 200 episodes and nine seasons in which we followed Jerry Seinfeld and his friends.
A sitcom considered “a series about nothing” but a nothing fun and to be hooked on, with all kinds of Emmy awards and nominations and absolute success in the United States. Together with Elaine, Kramer, and Constance, Jerry lives all kinds of situations in everyday life and always close to his monologue club.
Married with children
On Amazon Prime Video you can watch Married with children, with eleven seasons and more than 250 episodes of an American sitcom that was broadcast on Fox for ten years in the 1980s and 1990s.
The Bundy’s are the protagonists of this series that seeks to parody the “classical American family” of the time and became an audience success. A father obsessed with selling and earning money, a mother obsessed with shopping, a teenage daughter shown with the classic stereotype of beauty but not very smart, and a teenage son obsessed with being attractive, with girls, with being popular and interesting.
A series of stereotypes from a sarcastic point of view in which we will explore the relationship between family members but also with everything around it, with their neighbors, with everyday life.
In the late 1980s, Alf was born. Alf, Alien Life Form is a character that we have ever seen from another country, an alien from the planet Melmac who ate cats and is adopted by the Tanner family.
The family will take care of him as he repairs his ship to return to his place of origin but it will not be easy to hide from an alien when there are neighbors and visits at home or when everyone is looking for this “being” that hardly goes unnoticed.
More than 100 episodes in a fun title with a somewhat vague character who spends the day thinking about eating and watching TV. A classic and fun sitcom that, for now, we cannot see streaming again on any platform.
The introduction of The A-Team explains perfectly to us what the nearly 100 episodes of which it is one of the best series of the ’80s will be: “In 1972 a commando composed of four of the best men in the American army was imprisoned for a crime they had not committed, they soon escaped from the prison in which they were held… Today, still sought by the government, they survive as fortune soldiers. If you have any problems and you find them, you may be able to hire them”.
This was how each of the nearly 100 chapters of a series born in 1983 marked a generation with Hannibalk, Murdock, Phoenix, and M.A. an unforgettable quartet. These adventurers escaped from justice while doing justice without neglecting humor, action, and adventure.
MacGyver was capable of doing everything and inventing anything. His character that we knew in the middle ’80s and stared in the series for more than 120 different episodes is a secret agent who has decided to not use fire guns after suffering an accident where he lost a friend.
Just with a Switzerland knife and a tool that turns into ropes, lighters, bubble gums, and safety pins he would be able to solve anything that obstacle his way. He faces life or death situations with intelligence and a few methods in an action series, one of the best of the ’80s and one of the funniest titles we’ve ever seen.
Cheers is not available on any streaming platform but at least we still have Friends, which came some years later but with a similar thematic.
One of the most successful and remember sitcoms of all time, with the funniest situations that sound familiar, short and entertaining episodes that are situated in a bar which carried the name, the “Cheers”, a bar that belongs to the baseball player Bayday Malone. It tells the daily life of its clients and the characters from the bar, the group of friends who meet in Cheers to telling their day by day.
For the moment, we can’t watch it on any platform, neither Frasier, a spin-off based on the client Frasier Cane, a mythic from the bar who launched his tv program in which we followed his daily drama after getting a divorce and returning to his father’s house to get along with him and his therapist.
Surely, there was a time where you dreamt with KITT, had a similar one, with being David Hasselhoff in one of the most famous stories in the ’80s.
Michael Knight the protagonist of this title born in 1983 and with almost 100 episodes of a 1-hour duration. Knight and his car, KITT, can fight any injustice they find. An unusual car that is not like the rest, a prototype of high-techno with an intelligent driver on board. KITT can communicate with its driver, go and back on its own, and know where to go. Action, velocity, fights, and mythic song, a series remember for everyone from the ’80s.
