Being a member of the British Royal Family seems to be a dream come true. Everyone desires to live in a royal palace and wearing brilliant tiara. But the glamorous lifestyle has its fashion secrets, some rules, and pretty curious traditions (some even awkward) the British Royal Family must follow.
Let’s take a peek inside of the royal fashion world and 5 of the many rules its members have to bear in mind when choosing an outfit.
According to etiquette, the royal family always wears a hat during the day when doing official duties. However, after 6:00 pm, they change their day outfit for the night one and replace them for crowns. The night outfit includes shining diamonds never worn in the light of day.
In most cases, the Queen also wears gloves. A fashion trend that began in the ‘50s and a tradition still much alive. The gloves are also worn because of the Queen’s hygiene due to she has to give her hand to many people. Another tendency follows by her majesty is her interest in bright colors. This doesn’t seem to be an official rule, but the Queen loves to wear vivid and bright colors because it makes her easier to be noticed in the crowd.
They should pack an all-black suit when traveling
It may sound nothing out of the ordinary, but in fact, more than being a costume it’s a rule. Packing an all-black suit makes sure whether there is a death in the family while they’re going on a trip, they would be dressed properly for the mourning in case of being photographed by the paparazzi when returning home.
One time the Queen was traveling to Kenia and she’s forgotten to pack an all-black suit when the announcement of the death of her dad, Jorge VI, was known. Since then, probably no one forgets this rule.
Talking about the dress code, tiaras are only worn by married women of the royal family. There is an old rule which says that hats are never worn inside the palace at 6 pm because that’s when women put on a night suit and the tiaras and jewelry are out to be shown. Indeed, there are many rules concerning the tiara, one of them is the right angle it has to be placed in the head.
Necklines are not allowed
Necklines are prohibited for a matter of making a good impression and take care of their image in front of the paparazzi who used to take advantage of an embarrassing situation. Whilst the purse of Queen Isabel was used to send messages to her employees, Princess Diana had a different purpose.
When Princess Diana got out of her vehicle, she always covers her chest up to not show her neckline too much to the paparazzi and not to give them the opportunity of taking an inappropriate photo.
Jeans are permitted
While is not probably seeing a royal family member wearing denim pants, it’s not about a restriction. Although, their image matters and they can’t dress informally.
Duchess Catherine has been captured in a photo wearing dark denim jeans, pretty affordable, and colored jeans that seem to be a little bit pricey, accompanied with sandals, as much shocking it sounds it happens! Even Prince Willians occasionally wears jeans and he’s even been caught doing yoga in white jeans.
